Efficient cable management for PV systems

Who wants a cable mess when you can have order? PV mounting systems from novotegra offer various options for efficient cable management. By integrating cable channels into the substructure and using accessories such as cable clips and covers properly, cables can be routed safely and neatly.

Easy cable management makes work easier for both installers and electricians. It also contributes to the lifespan and efficiency of the PV system by protecting cables from damage and improving heat dissipation.

Cable management solutions from novotegra

All of our mounting systems include proven internal solutions for the simple laying and fixing of cables. All mounting rails that are suitable for cable management can be fitted with a cover. This protects the cables from water, animals biting them and UV radiation. The installation instructions show how to fit the components that are optionally available for laying cables.

All cable management items are optional and must be selected separately in Solar-Planit  in the ‘Webshop’ step.

Cable management accessories

Various accessories are available for all mounting systems for fixing the module and string cables to a flange such as rails or modules: cable ties in four different lengths, cable tie clips with two different opening sizes, and a cable clip.

Cable management for flat-roof PV systems

Flat roof II

With the novotegra flat roof system II, the base troughs can be used as a cable channel. A solution for water management is also integrated: water can easily drain through the holes in the profile.

The module and string cables are secured in the base trough using the appropriate cable holders. A cover is available for the base trough to protect the cables from external influences.

Flat roof III

With flat roof system III, two components offer the option of hanging the cables so that no laborious screwing is necessary. A cable channel can be attached to the base elements, which guides the cables along the longitudinal direction. A cable channel can be attached to the module supports, with which the cables are laid in a landscape direction.

A cover for the cable channels protects the cables from UV radiation and weather.

Cable management in pitched-roof PV systems

Pitched roof mounting systems

With novotegra pitched roof mounting solutions, the C and C-N rails of the clamping systems can be used as a cable channel, regardless of whether top-fix or side-fix is used. The required cover can simply be clipped into the C or C-N rail.

While both cables and plugs can be laid in the C-rail, only the cable can run inside the C-N rail.

Consequences of insufficient cable management

Unprofessional cable management can have a significant negative impact on a PV system:

  1. Safety risks: improperly routed cables can be damaged, which increases the risk of short circuits and, in the worst case, can cause fires.
  2. Loss of performance: poor cable routing can lead to increased cable or line losses, which can reduce the efficiency of the system and the amount of electricity produced.
  3. Increased maintenance costs: Untidy or poorly secured cables are more exposed to environmental factors and require more frequent maintenance, which increases operating costs.

Good cable management is therefore crucial to ensure the safety, efficiency and longevity of the PV system.
