Setting the scene

La Ribera Market, Bilbao, is the biggest covered food market on Earth. 180 businesses are working inside a beautiful example of late 1920s Art Deco architecture. But everyone has their role to play in the fight against climate change. novotegra was used to install PV modules across the building’s 800m2 roof.

Meeting the challenges

The sensitivities of working on a Guinness World Record-holding building can’t be overstated. We had to ensure our PV solution could integrate as respectfully as possible with La Ribera Market. High winds were also a concern, forcing some creative design thinking.

The result

Planning and implementation took only 6 months, alongside partners at Bikote Solar. This flagship project has delivered 22% of the market’s energy needs. 22.7 tonnes of CO2 per year have been saved, all while preserving this slice of the city’s heritage.

“Projects like this one are so delicate, yet so important. novotegra has worked with La Ribera’s uniqueness to craft the right solution. One that lets nearly 200 businesses enjoy renewable energy."
