Green energy meets green roof: Kvernelands' pioneer green roof project
A symbiosis of intelligent green roofs and renewable energies
Discover how Kverneland Energi AS implement a cutting-edge photovoltaic and green roof system in cooperation with novotegra.
Stavanger, Norway
Setting the scene
In the dynamic city of Stavanger, Norway, Kverneland Energi AS bridges the gap between agriculture and sustainable energy. An innovative approach was chosen to combine solar power with green roofing technology. This initiative aimed to enhance energy independence and significantly reduce carbon emissions, aligning with Kverneland's commitment to sustainability and innovation. A perfect setting to use novotegra’s green roof system.
Challenges
The project was a first of its kind for Kverneland Energi AS, involving the integration of a green roof with a solar energy system. The primary challenges included: Ensuring seamless collaboration between various contractors on the building site. Moreover it was challenging to navigate the complexities of being a pioneer in combining green roofing with solar technology in the region.
Results
After a dedicated two-month period of meticulous planning and implementation, the project was completed with remarkable success. The key outcomes included:
- 65.36 kWp solar installation: The project features a robust solar system that effectively harnessed solar energy.
- Significant CO2 reduction: The hybrid system leads to a reduction of 23,285 kg of CO2 emissions, making a substantial environmental impact.
- Large-scale implementation: The solar panels and green roof spann an area of 303.7 m2, demonstrating the feasibility of large-scale integration of these technologies.
