Diving into PV
Making waves for green energy
The installation of 135 kWp solar power on the flat roof of a public swimming pool in Leiden, using novotegra, successfully addressed the challenges posed by the lightweight roof construction.
Leiden, Netherlands
Setting the scene
In the midst of renovation the public swimming pool Zwembad De Zijl not only conquers architectural challenges but also sets a new standard for energy efficiency and environmental impact. In collaboration with BayWa re. Solar Distribution/ BeneLux and novotegra, a tailor-made solution was realized
Meeting the challenges
The renovation process revealed a unique challenge – the roof had to be upgraded in terms of fire protection and weatherproofing. They also wanted to go one step further in terms of energy efficiency and install a photovoltaic system to optimise the use of the space. A rock wool insulation layer was installed on the flat roof for fire protection, in combination with the Imper TPO membrane to seal the surface.
By combining the novotegra mounting system with Imper TPO membranes, the installation of the pv system has become even safer, ballast-free, and more convenient than ever.
Undeterred, BayWa r.e. realised a tailored solution in combination with CGMA and Imper to integrate the PV system perfectly.
The result
The flat roof of Zwembad De Zijl now proudly hosts a 135 kWp pv system, spanning a total area of 722m². Beyond its tangible energy output, the environmental impact is profound, boasting an annual CO2 savings of 67.20 tons.
What method are we talking about? During the laying of the membrane, specially designed aluminium profiles are welded firmly on to the TPO membrane by thermal sealing. The aluminium rails are thus perfectly and securely fixed. With this method, there is no penetration into the roof cladding, thus guaranteeing a perfectly watertight roof.
